DURHAM, N.C. - Luol Deng scored 21 points and J.J. Reddick had 19 to help the No. 2 Duke Blue Devils rally to a 67-56 win over Detroit and improve to 22-2 in season openers under coach Mike Krzyzewski.

The Blue Devils had to struggle to win for the 29th straight time at Cameron Indoor Stadium, giving Krzyzewski his 664th career victory to tie UCLA's John Wooden for 18th place on the NCAA Division I list.

James Thues scored 12 points to lead Detroit, which entered its season opener as a 20-point underdog.

The Titans scored the first 12 points, and the Blue Devils didn't take the lead until midway through the second half.

Ben Gordon scored 27 points, Emeka Okafor 23 and Denham Brown 20 for Connecticut in the win.

Connecticut (3-0) shot 71 percent while rolling to a 60-28 halftime lead.

Rashad Anderson added 18 points for the Huskies, and freshman Marcus Williams had 13 assists, one short of the school record.

Sacred Heart, playing its season opener, got 15 points apiece from Omar Wellington and Maurice Bailey.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. | Dee Brown had 23 points and five assists to lead depleted Illinois to victory in its season opener.

Five Illini hit double figures on a night when Illinois had only 10 players available. Luther Head, Aaron Spears and Richard McBride spent the game on the bench, serving suspensions for violating team rules.

Roger Powell added 14 points, Nick Smith 13 and James Augustine 12 for the Illini, who hit 52 percent of their shots and were 7-22 from behind the 3-point line. Deron Williams added 11 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.

Western Illinois (0-3) was led by Doyle Cole with 16 points.

PITTSBURGH | Chevy

Troutman made all eight of his shots from the floor in scoring 18 points and freshman Chris Taft added 12 points and eight rebounds for Pitt in the win.

Julius Page led the Panthers (2-0) with 21 points and Jaron Brown added 16 as the Pittsburgh won its 23rd consecutive home game and first under new coach Jamie Dixon.

Darshan Luckey led St. Francis in its opener with 23 points.

CINCINNATI | Reserve Tony Bobbitt scored 21 points, and Cincinnati won its 38th consecutive home opener.

Nick Williams added 14 points for Cincinnati.

Akron, where Bob Huggins coached before taking over the Bearcats in 1989, sustained its worst loss since falling to Bowling Green by 30 points on Feb. 23, 2002 - a span of 33 games.

Derrick Tarver scored 19 points for the Zips.

No. 19 Wake Forest 97,

Elon 55WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. | Eric Williams scored 16 points to lead Wake Forest to its 15th home-opening victory in a row.

Jamaal Levy and Justin Gray added 13 points each for the Demon Deacons (2-0).

Jackson Atoyebi scored 11 points for Elon (0-3).

It was a homecoming of sorts for the Elon staff. Head coach Ernie Nestor spent 14 seasons as an assistant at Wake Forest. Two of his aides, Tim Fuller and Jim Fitzpatrick, played for the Demon Deacons.

MINNEAPOLIS | Lindsay Whalen had 27 points, seven rebounds and four assists to help 13th-ranked Minnesota start its season by beating Southern in the opening round of the Subway Classic.

The Golden Gophers, who face Colorado on Sunday for tournament title, opened the game with an 11-1 run, No. 16 Colorado 85,

MINNEAPOLIS | Tera Bjorklund scored 33 points, and Colorado (3-0) rallied from a 15-point first-half deficit to reach the title game of the Subway Classic.

The Crimson led 48-43 at halftime in their season opener.

OKLAHOMA CITY | Maria Villarroel scored 20 points and Caton Hill added 17 for Oklahoma in the opening game of the Bertha Teague Classic.

Oklahoma scored 17 straight points to start the second half in the season opener for both teams.

No. 22 Arizona 89,

Northern Arizona 67

TUCSON, Ariz. | Shawntinice Polk scored 25 points, including nine straight to start the second half as Arizona won the season opener for both teams.
